Rory Gallagher: March 2, 1948 - June 14, 1995 He threw every fibre of his being into his music. Scrappy, unabashed, and bluesy to the core, he was a sublime guitarist and compelling singer. His live and studio recordings, especially during the 1970’s, delivered strength, wisdom, and inspiration. He seem to gravitate toward roots American music even though he grew up in Ireland where there’s a lot of folk nad traditional music that didn’t initially appeal to him. From 6-9 years old, he was inspired by American Musicians like Lonnie Donegan when he heard him doing Woody Guthrie and Lead Belly songs. And of course, Elvis Presley, Eddie Cochraine, and Chuck Berry’s mixture of folk, blues, and rock songs from America - He followed through and learned about all of them. He recommended Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters to young players and for them to get acquainted for Son House and other early Blues…
