Rosie Play Blanket Tutorial Part 1 - Making the squares Here are my instructions for making the Rosie Play blanket. The squares are super easy to make and are basically granny squares without corners until the last round. You can right click the pictures and save to a computer or print them out if you find that easier to follow. A few facts and figures before we begin. I have used 8 colours of acrylic dk to make this blanket. 7 for the circles and stripe border and an 8th for the background but you can use any number of colours you like. The circles are a great way to use up scraps. You will need around 375g of the background colour. I have used a 5mm hook as I wanted a slightly chunkier feel but you can use the hook size you are most comfortable with for Dk yarn. My blanket is 115cm square but you can adjust the size to suit your requirements by altering the number of squares in the middle or the depth of the border. To make a blanket the same as the one in the picture you will need to make 36 squares. To ensure an even mix of colours throughout the squares I used this method. 1. Make 36 centres. 5 each of light blue, beige, cream, light green, dark green and dark pink and 6 in light pink. 2. Take the light blue centres and use a different colour each time to complete the second round. 3. Now use a different colour again to complete the third round. You should have 5 circles that are a different combination each time. 4. Complete the fourth round to make each circle into a square using the denim blue yarn. 5. Repeat for each of the other colour centres. You will have 36 unique colour combinations and an even mix of colours used. Once you have made the squares, sew in the ends before moving on to joining. P.s. - Ive just noticed that Ive labelled two stages 4 in the tutorial by mistake. the pictures are in the correct order so shouldnt affect the followability :) Coming next: Part Two - Joining the squares
