Round sling tags Round sling tags provide manufacturers information about the make-up and load rating of the round sling. They are usually attached with velcro at the juncture where the polyester or wire rope core are formed (welded). The velcro can be opened if requested by the fire marshall allowing inspection of the core. Too often I see stagehands correctly wrapping the cords of a truss with round slings only to see them incorrectly trapping the tags (and sling juncture) around the wrappings. Doing this causes flex on the slings core at the most inflexible part of the sling. Slings should be wrapped so the tag is positioned on a straight run, usually at the top- just below where the shackle attaches so its out of audience view.
