Rousseau dinner full notes 2009s were very tight and concentrated, I chilled the wines before pre pouring at the table prior to the chevalier course. It allowed the wines to open up without getting warm as they were all quite closed. Lavaux had a lightness and elegance, C St J had a profound mineral streak at its core, Clos de Beze was very rich and full with an exotic violet perfume exploding from the glass , while Chambertin was typically regal powerful with a core of mineral laced rich fruit that came across the palate on a wave of super ripe tannins, it was immense. 1989 was a warm bountiful harvest and it showed. The C St J had a more focused nose than the Chambertin and more pronounced minerality. The Chambertin was in full party mode, showing beautiful sweet fruit expansive mid palate and succulent long finish. Less concentrated than say a 90 or 91, but not any less enjoyable as a result. 1988s were both Classic old school burgundies ( that I think 95 will end up looking like ). Extremely tight, more focused and linear perfume and quite firm tannins on the finish. After 6 hours this turned into beautiful laser like minerality and very very long tannin finish that was much sweeter than at the outset. These should last a long time based on the evolution I saw! 83 saw much sorting due to rot and though there was a similarly in the overall style to the 88s, there was more richness of fruit and generosity across the palate. However there was faint tell tale sign of the vintage that was ever present. I still enjoyed the wine and suspect it was a triumph for the vintage, an 83 Jayer Cros Parentoux was similar 1976 Rousseau Chambertin was one of the most beautiful perfectly perfect mature burgundies that I have had the pleasure to try. It have that ethereal quality that floats caresses and seduces tha palate and lasts and lasts on the finish. THIS MY FRIENDS IS WHAT WE ASPIRE TO TASTE WHEN DRINKING OLD BURGUNDY!!!!!! It is at its peak though will probably hold for some time. If you have a bottle try it now! Quote of the night was....... Philip Jones said it best- his favorite wines were the 09,89 and 76 Chambertin and all the Clos St Jacques!
