Royal Australian Air Force provides assistance to fire affected communities in Port Stephens, near Newcastle. Up-to fifty members from the Royal Australian Air Force will start working in the Salt Ash Community from Tuesday afternoon in an effort to help the families get back on their feet. The RAAF Base Williamtown personnel will be providing assistance to the families affected by the recent fires to help clear their land so they can start re-building. Whilst the Air Force personnel are in the Salt Ash area they will also be looking out for any injured wildlife and ensuring the wildlife receives treatment from the local veterinary services who have offered their assistance. Senior Air Defence Force Officer at RAAF Base Williamtown, Air Commodore Tony Grady stated “This will be a long term assistance program to the community. Some families may not need assistance for another month but, when they do we will be there to help.” Air Force teams will continue surveying other fire affected areas throughout the week including Fingal Bay and Heatherbrae to see if they can help the community.
