Initially, it was launched with a 150cc engine but looking at the warm reception of this bike in India, TVS soon upgraded this bike and re-launched Apache with a 160cc engine. This bike created a new segment in our Indian bike market and became the first of its kinds. Recently, TVS has brought on some new changes in this bike and now promotes it as Apache Hyper Edge. Does it have the guts to take on the army of other 150cc bikes? Let’s find out. TVS Apache RTR 160 Hyper Edge Exterior TVS Apache has always been a short and compact bike and the new bike is no different. The new Hyper Edge starts from where its previous generation ended. There are many new changes in this bike which are easily noticeable. TVS has worked on its face and the bike looks more attacking and aggressive than before. Its cowl and tinted visor looks much sharper than before with a stretched headlight. Apache now features day time running LEDs combined with new pilot lamps which certainly adds premium touch to this bike. It does resemble to the outgoing model but with its new clear lens indicators and headlight, it looks more trendy and futuristic. Its front fender and racing strips on its wheels remains intact. The bike gets new engine cowl and tank cowl which improves the aerodynamics of this bike and adds visual bulk to it. There is new stretched rear panel which looks cool with its split grab rails. At the back, its dual colored tail light, sharp fender and rear tyre are similar to its previous generation. Instrument Console of TVS Apache RTR 160 Hyper Edge TVS Apache Hyper Edge features a neatly designed instrument panel with all essential indicators. It has a big white dial for its analogue tachometer on the left side while it sports a big LCD for its digital speedometer, odometer and trip meter on the right side. The bike now uses blue back-lit display which replaces the orange color used in its previous generation. Engine and Gearbox TVS Apache Hyper Edge is powered by a mono cylinder, 4-stroke 159.7cc engine. This engine delivers a power output of 15.2 bhp at 8500 rpm. Its torque output of 13.1 Nm is usable at 4000 rpm. TVS has equipped this 2-valve engine with a five speed manual gearbox having a gear shift pattern of one gear down and four gears up. Acceleration and Performance TVS Apache completely justifies the word RTR (Racing Throttle Response) in its name. The bike has many advantages over its other competitors. It weighs lighter and its engine generates more power than its other rivals. These factors help this bike to get the best power to weight ratio in its class. The bike feels an enthusiast from the very first move. With this bike, you can complete 0-60km/hr in less than 6 seconds. The initial gear ratios are very crispy which makes it quite fast in city traffic. You shouldn’t be no complaining about its gear transitions also. However, the refinement level of this engine is a matter of concern. This engine turns really noisy at high rpms and vibrations are quite evident after 5000rpm. The harshness level is less than before but there is still room left for improvement. Apart from refinement, this engine is pretty enjoyable. It can easily reach the top speed of 118km/hr which is certainly better than others. Only FZ bikes from Yamaha can challenge this bike otherwise it’s very powerful for others. Its early availability of torque is a boon in city traffic and without much gear shifts; you will be pleased with its stress free ride. TVS Apache RTR 160 Hyper Edge Mileage Its fuel efficiency ranges from 48-52km/ltr in city conditions while you can expect a mileage of around 55km/ltr on highways. Its lightweight makes it more fuel efficient than most of its competitors.
