Rumours spread fast. Today enhanced security measures around the 4 towers of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, headquarters led to wild rumours of bomb scare in the complex. NNPC headquarters are located in the Central Business District of Abuja. According to reports, armed security officials including policemen and soldiers had taken control of strategic areas at around the NNPC Towers, ensuring that there is a free movement of vehicles on the adjoining roads. The sources within the Corporation swiftly denied the rumours of a bomb scare in the building. Tuesday is a common visiting day in the NNPC. However the access to the Tower was restricted to only Corporations workers and few visitors who were thoroughly screened, marketers who could not show their identities were denied entry. An anonymous source within the Corporation has claimed that soldiers and policemen is a permanent part of the security arrangement at the NNPC Towers, especially since the last Boko Haram attack in Abuja. The source also noted that if there is bomb scare, workers of the Corporation would not have been allowed into the NNPC building. He said that security enhanced not only in NNPC as more security men have been deployed around Abuja. Increased security measures may be taken due to information about possible attack by members of Boko Haram. The insurgent group had already launched 2 major attacks in Abuja. In 2010, the sect attacked the Nigeria Police headquarters located less than a kilometre to Aso Rock presidential villa. The group also attacked a building belonging to the United Nations during whichscores of Nigerians and foreigners were murdered.
