At age 40, the top layer of skin, the stratum corneum, starts to thicken, making it appear drier, flakier and denser…and the second layer of skin, the dermis, begins to thin and lose elasticity. Recent findings: People over age 40 who exercised regularly had thinner, healthier stratum corneums and thicker dermis layers—in other words, younger skin. And: After exercising regularly for three months, the skin of people over age 65 improved significantly—with less pronounced wrinkles, crow’s feet and sagging.
