Rwandan President to attend US-Africa leaders summit KIGALI, Aug.4 (TOA) - Rwandas President Paul Kagame will attend a two-days US-Africa Leaders Summit that is scheduled to quick off Tuesday in Washington DC, by US President Barack Obama, said an official statement issued here Monday. The Summit, scheduled to take place on 5-6 August, is under the theme: “Investing in the Next Generation. According to the statement issued to The Times of Africa (TOA) in Kigali, President Kagame will use the opportunity to promote Africas infrastructural projects which have been earmarked for financing under the New Partnership for Africas Development (NEPAD) as agreed at the 14-15 June NEPAD summit that took place in Dakar, Senegal. In addition, the Rwandan leader will highlight his vision about the continents sustainable economic growth and hold discussions with Rwandas technical and financial partners, businesspersons and representatives of the US Congress. He will also attend an event on resilience and food security organised by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The statement said the US-Africa Leaders Summit was aimed at deepening the rich and longstanding partnership between the US and the African continent, especially as Africa was seen as the world’s next great economic success story, with the continent being home to six of the 10 fastest growing economies in the world. Nearly all African Heads of State are expected to be in attendance at the Summit. The statement said the Rwandan President was accompanied by First Lady Jeannette Kagame who would participate in a number of events, including an all-day meeting of the spouses of African Heads of State on 6 August, to be hosted by US First Lady Michelle Obama, with support from former First Lady Laura Bush, at the John F. Kennedy Centre.
