S M Iqbal sets a revenue target of Rs. 2000 crore for Waqf Board Hyderabad, January 29: Commissioner Minority Welfare and Special Officer Waqf Board Mr. Shaikh Mohammed Iqbal IPS has resolved to reach the revenue target of Rs. Crore annually for Waqf Board by the end of his term. It must be recalled that he has been assigned the duty of protection of Waqf properties for one year. Shaikh Mohammed Iqbal was appointed Special Officer Waqf Board on December 19, 2013 by the government. During the last one month he has taken few major steps for the protection of Waqf properties. Speaking to Siasat correspondent the claimed that Waqf Board revenue can be increased by better exploitation of Waqf properties. The revenue can be spent on the educational, social and economic development of the minorities. With better utilisation of Waqf properties we won’t need government’s aid rather Waqf board would itself be in a position to set up educational institution from KG to PG and it can run standard educational institutions on its own. Mr. Iqbal informed that during the past one month two major Waqf properties have been taken over by Waqf Board including Madina Education Society and Makkah Madina Allauddin Waqf. He lamented that Waqf Properties are not been utilized as per Mansha-e-Waqf and most of the trustees are raking in huge money while giving a paltry sum to the Waqf Board. He reiterated that Waqf properties are for the welfare of Muslims and as Special Officer he will try that the properties are protected and their benefits would reach poor Muslims. He claimed that if the real fund of Waqf properties reaches Waqf Board, no poor Muslim would remain illiterate or economically backward and no poor Muslim girl would remain unmarried. Siasat news
