S9653 - Cocklerue Hill. . NS989743, LR65. HISTORY: Pillar originally completed 14th April 1944 costing £7.3s.9d with flush bracket S3235. Computed as secondary triangulation station NT18/5 within the Dunfermline block during 1946. The pillar rebuilt on 17th of June 1958 with replacement bracket S9653. Information kindly supplied by OS 28/03/2003. Never levelled for height. Last maintained by the OS in January 1987. SITE VISIT: Approached from ESE. Free car park at NS993742 forms part of Beecraigs Country Park. Straightforward footpath leads through woods to open hill. Cockleroy is a grazing top, just outside country park. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces ENE ~69°. All sight holes open, innards filled with debris. Full 360° panoramic view includes the Ochils, Knock Hill, Fife Lomonds, North Berwick Law, Arthurs Seat, Blackford Hill, Braid Hills, Pentland Hills, Culter Fell and Tinto.
