SAD DAY FOR MUSOS ON PLANES Glen Miller died 10 Dec 1944 Glen Miller was an American jazz musician, arranger, composer, and bandleader in the swing era. He was one of the best-selling recording artists during the war, leading one of the best known Big Bands. His hits include In the Mood, Moonlight Serenade, Pennsylvania 6-5000, Chattanooga Choo Choo, Tuxedo Junction, and Little Brown Jug. While he was travelling to entertain U.S. troops in France during World War II, Glenn Miller disappeared in bad weather over the English Channel. It later emerged that his plane had been hit accidently by a British bomber dispensing of its unused load in the Channel before landing. youtu.be/teJfuKdzbOo Otis Redding died 10 Dec 1967 In the mid-1960s Otis Redding established himself one of the most exciting soul artists of the era. He’d had several RnB hits, and Aretha Franklin had taken a cover version of his song Respect all the way to #1 on the pop charts. When he left his final recording session he had intended to return to the song hed been working on—he still had to replace a whistled verse thrown in as a placeholder with additional lyrics still to be written. However, on this day in 1967, he perished in a plane crash. Sittin On The Dock Of The Bay would be released in its unfinished form several weeks later, including Reddings whistled verse.
