SAD NEWS FOR THE WHITE ROSE CLUB - What a roller coaster the last few months have been! As you know we have been on with this attempt to reopen the Club for over 18 months – 100s of hours of work in one fashion or another. Last Wednesday we had a meeting where we heard out of the blue that the Garrison authorities had changed their mind again and now wanted to sell the bowling equipment, pool tables etc and indeed that despite the effect it would have on the bowling alley and the condition of the building, the entire complex is to be boarded up. There was a reprieve the following day regarding the bowling alley but not on the boarding up which will cause irreparable damage. All the funding to do the work at the White Rose was to come from public funds (grants) – there is no way that 2 elected representatives could condone potentially £80K+ being drawn down when we knew that the building would be deteriorating beyond help before we could do anything about it. To say we are disappointed is an understatement! So with very heavy hearts we admit defeat – the White Rose Club will disappear in that it will be demolished – a sad end to a place which has given so much pleasure! We would both like to thank those who have offered their help to us, continued to support, given quotes, taken the time to talk through our plans and applications and generally been there with us.
