SAD NEWS... I was on my way in to one of favorite restaurants and a homeless man was sitting out front. I greeted him because he IS a human being and I asked how he was doing. (homeless man=HM) HM: Can you tell me when were having fun yet so I will know? [puffs cigarette] Me: [smiles]Ill do that. I go in and have a pleasant time doing some work and being treated like a VIP. Just when I was wrapping up having my after dinner tea in comes HM. He is QUICKLY waylayed by the waiter. Waiter: Can I help you? HM: I was waiting for the bus, can I just use the bathroom Waiter: [shakes head] its ONLY for the customers. I have an immediate flashback to the WHOLE FOODS parking lot episode when I was accosted and warned that if I leave the lot I could get a $40 ticket. I was so pissed. I had just shopped there and was just going to pick up something around the corner. It would have taken me no more than 15 more min. It really burned me because of how much $$ I spend in there. It should be a courtesy at the very least but THEIR policy is that its for customers ONLY WHILE SHOPPING.... I didnt know what to do. So ... I just pretended not to see it. HM left saying loudly WELCOME TO AMERICA... yes its true for ALL of us....I tried to think of what I could have done without setting a precedent for that restaurant I did not own. I thought about telling him to try the mall public bathroom but I couldnt know for sure if they had one. I flashed back to how they rolled out the red carpet for me to use the bathroom at that great bar in New Haven and they were not even open yet... I dont know... But it would surely be the reason people just pee on the sidewalk or on the side of buildings or in the hallways or just anywhere. I drove away still pondering.. Should I have invited HM over for tea? Would that make him a customer? Would HM be denied the bathroom in an emergency room or walk in clinic? What if he was sick? Would HM tear up that restaurant bathroom and pee on the wall?? I dont know... I dont know ... I dont know...
