SAFETY WARNING RELATED TO AREAS COLD TEMPS: With this week’s frigid temperatures, many people will be bringing out their electric, propane and kerosene space heaters to help warm their homes and offices. If you use a portable space heater, we ask that you please follow these safety tips: - All heaters should be Underwriters Listed (UL) approved. - Place the heater on a level surface away from foot traffic, doorways and exits. Be especially careful to keep children and pets away from the heater. - Heaters should have a thermostat that automatically shuts down the unit when the desired temperature is reached. - Every heater should have a tip-over safety switch, which automatically shuts off the heater if the unit is tipped over. - Heaters should be kept at least 3 feet from everything. - Do not place heaters under desks or other confined spaces. - Plug heater directly into wall outlets. NEVER use extension cords. - Do not use heaters in rooms that are, at any time, left unoccupied. If you leave the room, or your home, turn it off. - Do not use space heaters while sleeping. - Never use space heaters in wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms. - Make sure all smoke detectors in your home work.
