SALLY MUGABE WOULD FAINT AT BEHOLDING THIS Analysis By Itai Dzamara IF Sally Mugabe were to emerge from the dead today, she would surely faint at beholding the shocking disaster that both Zanu PF and the country have become. The former First Lady would be forgiven for assuming she got lost and went to the wrong place. More than two decades since Sally departed Zimbabwes political and leadership stage, what she had immensely contributed in making a united nation with a mother figure at the state house, has degenerated into a house of hunger, a troubled spot, perennially hanging on the brink of national conflict. What Sally left as a Zanu PF party which espoused the ideals of independence, freedom and general good for the people, has become a hotch potch of chaos, gang of mafia, murder outfits, election thieves and incorrigible serial robbers of the national coffers. Sally, whose legacy is epitomised by her sterling work in ameliorating the burden of orphans and underprivileged children, would cring at beholding the sea of destitutes the society has become. She would deny the existence of the humanitarian disaster at Chingwizi in Masvingo, which has been a turf for running battles pitting the state and helpless victims of Tokwe Mukosi flooding - until going there to witness it. Yet, very ironically and as a huge indictment to the memory of Sally, the same man who had been the source of hope for a united, prosperous and harmonous nation, is behind the shocking disaster. He is Robert Mugabe! Sally would surely not believe seeing or hearing this spectacle - that her husband is still pretending to head the country and has presided over taking Zimbabwe to the dogs. What more, Sally would surely faint at beholding her successor as Roberts wife, and the scandalous role she is playing in the Mugabe tragic comedy being staged before the whole world. One Grace Marufu Mugabe! Sally would have to return to that later, for, surely, Robert would be too much to fathom and demystify. Zimbabwe is on its knees and hopelessly hobbling from one crisis to another. Robert Mugabe has been a huge albatross on the nation, very late in advanced age, frail and unhealthy, yet utterly clueless about solving the national crisis. It takes pure madness to understand or tolerate what he is trying to do. Does Robert really just doesnt care about the disaster he created and continues to worsen, the whole nation would be found wondering if Sally were to emerge. Is he a normal human being, this Robert Mugabe, even members of his party now wonder? For, Zanu PF has virtually come full circle and down on the knees, thanks to Mugabes failed leadership and lack of wisdom. It is open warfare in Zanu PF, of barbaric and uncouth nature, that a split has been technically confirmed. Chaos, abductions, kidnappings and public physical fights by top leaders, eloquently symbolise the stinking disaster created and nurtured by Robert Mugabe. Sally would be gripped by shame at beholding the rumbling failure that Zanu PF has become. Then, probably she would find the answer upon probing deeper and discovering the involvement of her successor in the whole tragedy. Grace has also taken off, not only her gloves, but also little dignity she had, to plunge head-on into the chaos created by her husband within Zanu PF. And, to capture it all, Grace has brought nothing else but more of the same that her husband has been dishing out - beligerent outbursts, threats, uncouth boasting and patently stupid overzealousness. Grace has, in simpler terms, been plucked from her controversial life as First Lady, to be thrown into the fire and stoke the flames currently consuming Zanu PF. Nothing could have proved Robert Mugabes selfishness, arrogance and even thuggery than unleashing his former secretary at a time Zanu PF and the nation desperately require leadership and a reprieve from the old mans long tenure of failure and plunder. That, in itself, is very symbolic and emblematic. Mugabe, after going full circle and finishing his destruction of both Zanu PF and the country, finally resorts to playing a move that amounts in nothing but a stalemate - Grace Marufu. Therein lies the answer and Sally would eventually understand that her death and absence from Mugabes life became the curse for the nation of Zimbabwe, because, Robert not only lost a pillar, compassionate mother of the nation and adviser, but he took the turn for the worst, by hiring a loaded gun, loose cannon that would push the dictator deeper into the quamire, before being unleashed to stoke vicious national flames. Sally would fall down into tears upon understanding how her early departure condemned a whole nation to the evil Zimbabwe is engulfed with today. Deep down his heart, Robert Mugabe knows this story, and which must have made him regularly visit Sallys graveside to lament about being left alone and exposed by his first wife. Unfortunately, Robert became captive to the successor, whose real true colours the nation is fast comprehending now - explaining what became after Sallys departure, and part of the disaster all over the place today.
