SALTON SEA AND SEA OF CORTEZ --- CANAL OR AQUEDUCT... I agree - TopicsExpress

SALTON SEA AND SEA OF CORTEZ --- CANAL OR AQUEDUCT... I agree with this guy. Why is that not a viable idea? If the Salton Sea is below sea level, it could be gravity fed… After all thats what formed it in the first place! He is intrigued by the idea of building a canal to bring water from Mexico’s Gulf of California, and thinks it would be doable to use desalination plants fueled by geothermal steam to balance the lake’s salinity and prevent its demise. Apparently, although the Salton Sea is salty, it is less so than the ocean...even now. The concept of bringing water through a canal from Mexico isn’t new. It has been studied multiple times over the past few decades and has been repeatedly dismissed by officials as too costly and too difficult. Building a canal would require negotiating an international agreement, securing permission to take water from a sensitive area recognized by the U.N. as a biosphere reserve, building infrastructure (siphon???) to pump water uphill before a downhill run to the Salton Sea, and extracting massive quantities of salt, which would otherwise hasten the demise of the lake’s ecosystem.
