SAN BERNARDINO: Armed man surrenders to police RICHARD BROOKS / STAFF WRITER SAN BERNARDINO -- A man-with-a-gun call turned into a two-hour police standoff in San Bernardino until negotiators arranged the surrender of a motorist theyd hemmed in between patrol cars and an armored vehicle. The incident began at 5:34 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, and prompted police to cordon off 11th street between G and H streets. The SUVs driver had tried to evade officers, but was forced to stop, said Lt. Dario Robinson. But the man refused to get out of the SUV, Robinson said. Officers soon learned that the man -- identified only as a San Bernardino resident in his 30s – already was named in an arrest warrant charging him with an undisclosed felony. Shortly before he surrendered, the man threw a handgun out of the SUV, Robinson said. At 7:15 p.m., he was taken into custody, surrounded by a SWAT team and a police dog.
