SANDY: “I am grateful to begin THE AMBER BLADE in the simplicity of mud huts and forests, altho I know I will not be allowed this peaceful respite for long. I have read most of Le Carre, some of Griffin, and feel sure you fall right in the middle. Tried Clancey but found the violence, as I remember, too daunting. But I LOVE YOUR WRITING! Keep them coming. This what-if thrown in with real history is making my brain work again . . . As I was writing the third novel in this series, the characters had become such a real part of me I began to ask myself, “who are these people” and “where did they come from?” To answer my own questions, I started looking at the characters’ motives in the 1960s, but this led me to the 1940s, which led me to World War I. Before I knew it, I began AMBER BLADE with the Kitchen Middens in Neolithic Denmark. This is historical fiction – yes, yes, I know I’ve taken a literary license when necessary to advance the story. But in that genre, it’s my job to keep it within the context of history, not write a history of Denmark – that has been done by others more qualified than I. As always, I’m interested in your comments. Please feel free to write me at [email protected]. HpM
