SATURDAY 13 SEPTEMBER Championship Thornesians 1 -v- 1 Calverley United Scorer: Curtis Cunningham MotMK: Goalkeeper Jossa Ripley his second MOTM in 2 weeks: not bad for the self acclaimed Best right back in the Club Thornes goal was the result of some excellent build work and expertly finished by Curtis after 25 minutes. Ry Dobson hit the cross bar with a delightful chip cutting in from the left wing before Calverley were awarded a very dubious free kick on the edge of the area, the Thornes offender very nearly having his shirt ripped off his back in the process of committing (?) the offence. The free kick was clinically hit into the roof of the net followed by the whistle for half time. Even steven in the second half with Thornes striking the post twice - a good game between two committed teams well refereed by Unbreakable, third choice referee. R Mally made way for Adam Naylor and Dobbo, after running his little socks off, was repaced by Luke Haigh. Division 4 Shire Academics Res 7 -v- 0 Thornesians III Late arrival at Bedquilts didnt allow for a warm up - result 5-0 down after 20 minutes. MotM; 16 yo Kane Whitaker in his first start for the Club, one for the Firsts in the not too distant future?? Lesson to be learnt - arrive at meet in plenty of time to allow for travelling and WARM UP!!!!!
