SATURDAY 29, 2014 Ministers warn against rigging ATTEMPTS to tamper with the register would not succeed as genuine and steadfast members of the Patriotic Front (PF) wanted transparency in the election process of a new party president to take over from late President Michael Sata, some ministers and members of the PF Central Committee (MCC) have vowed. MCC group spokesperson Harry Kalaba said the party’s MCC has been investigating allegations of parallel registration and accreditation taking place in support of a certain named camp to disadvantage other candidates. He was addressing the press at the Blue Nile lodge yesterday in Lusaka. Mr. Kalaba who is Minister of Foreign Affairs hoped that the allegations emanating from a named camp or group of having doctored the list of delegates would be resolved at the Mulungushi Rock of Authority today before the conference begins. He said the enemies of the PF have resorted to scare tactics, tactics of intimidation and instilling fear in delegates who did not support their candidates. “Enemies of the party will be exposed and removed. We therefore appeal to all our members to remain calm and peaceful. “As members of the Central Committee and Members of Parliament, we have agreed that the general conference will proceed as scheduled and all concerns regarding accreditation of delegates will be resolved at the general conference,” Mr. Kalaba said. He said any further issuance of accreditation in Lusaka would be deemed as null and void, Mr Kalaba said with or without Acting President Guy Scott, the Patriotic Front (PF) general conference will go ahead to elect a new party president. He said the violent activities exhibited during the accreditation process ahead of today’s conference was aimed at cancelling the conference, an act which was a scheme by the cartel to delay the whole process and work against the PF. Mr Kalaba warned that the enemies of the PF would soon be exposed and flashed out of the PF. “Our warning to the detractors is that the PF family is one and is determined to elect a candidate of its choice and commence national campaigns. Please be informed that the PF family is a peaceful group and we will go to Mulungushi in Kabwe,” said Mr. Kalaba. He said this after Acting President Scott suspended the accreditation of delegates for today’s conference. Mr. Kalaba said the general conference would go ahead and members should be prepared to elect the party president ahead of the presidential by election. Earlier, Dr. Scott cancelled the accreditation of PF delegates at Mulungushi International Conference Centre due to threats of violence which characterized the PF in their search for the new leader to replace President Sata who died a month ago. Dr. Scott was forced to cancel the process after his cadres and those supporting Mr. Lungu clashed at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre.
