SATURDAY SHOWCASE: MEMBERS INTRO! Please allow me to reintroduce to you all a wonderfull lady, hobbyist and gamer. My sister from another mister Kristen Dorcey-Joyce . Name: Kristen Dorcey-Joyce (Not Kirsten or Crystal or anything…its KRIsten..) Age: 30mumble Gender: Of the ladylike persuasion Location: Edinburgh baby! Occupation: Office Admin (of doom) How did you get into wargaming?: I can’t remember exactly, it was a long time ago, but certainly increased once I met Mark, who basically lives and breathes wargaming/gaming/painting etc.. Who is your all-time favourite GW character?: I am not good at pinning things down to one choice (you will see that later when asked about films and stuff).. I would have to say more than a particular character, the interaction between chaos gods or the “after life” of the elder. If I had to be pinned down to a character, it would have to be the Emperor as you will not find a more devious sod in the entire system. He got plans and woe betides anyone who gets in the way.. What is your army of choice?: Tyranids…Always loved painting and playing. The fact they are very unemotional and instinctive, playing with the hive mind makes for a great battle. What is your favourite colour scheme?: To paint, Green fading into Yellow, but as you may have seen from some of the Eldar stuff I have done, I will try my hand at anything required. Do love a bit of chess board style…. Purple and blue is also good… Can’t do a clean yellow to save my life though! How did you find this group and how long have you been a member?: Mark was invited in and kept talking about it… I had to almost beg to be let in as I wasn’t properly vetted… It was a close call. Who would have been consistently third in the painting comps if I wasn’t here, hey!!?? Where and how often do you usually play?: Don’t really play often, but I watch a lot of games and actually enjoy seeing tactics evolve and drop in and out and see what the progress is and how bubble snotty the players are getting. I do get asked for advice when making up army lists and stuff, so keep fairly up to date with new rules and that. I do like Heroclix and have a campaign on going (It is just so much quicker to play and I don’t have to sit on the floor to play it…) Do you have any other armies, for 40K or any other system?: I did have a HUGE Tyranid army but sold it when we came up to Edinburgh.. I am slowly getting bits back together but am collecting quite a lot of random large models which I enjoy painting and looking at. Got Heroclix stuff. What is your favourite and least favourite army to play against?: I love playing against Eldar. HATE playing against imperial guard. Especially when playing Nids. Like a scene out of a cheap starship troopers!! What is your best and worst 40k or general gaming moment?: Alley of death. A move of pure perfection. Does what it says on the tin, and they just kept coming. Or when I was playing against 5 other players and decimated them to a man. Worst was my first ever Orc game, first move blew up the head of a guy that ended up taking out a unit too. Learning curve! What would be your best bit of advice to a new player?: Have fun and try not to get sucked in to the overt fluff monsters/frothers/ nail hard gamers or power players. Find what you like to do and explore it yourself. Then go and ask people once you have an idea firmed. What does/do your family/significant other/friends think about your funny toys?: To be honest, pretty normal. Considering I spent at least 10 years running around dressed up as a troll hitting people, at least this “keeps me off the street”. Significant other is worse than me, so no problems there. Whats your favourite book?: Stonehenge 2000 BC or ANYTHING by Terry Pratchett. What is your favourite Tv series?: Doctor Who, Agents of Shield, Air crash Investigation, British Bake off… hard to say what my favourite is out of them.. What is your favourite film?: Jurassic park, Despicable Me, World War Z was particularly good, anything Thor/Avengers. Film I have watched most ever is Rocky Horror Show. Star Wars and Lord of the rings go without saying. New Star Treks have been pretty fab. What is your favourite band?: Tricky to pin down to be honest, I have an eclectic taste to say the least. My iPod at the moment has Elvis, Florence and the machine, Motorhead, G4, Iron Maiden, some random 60’s stuff, Robbie Williams… What are your favourite sports?: F1 and international rugby to watch. I don’t do participation activity. Do you have any pets?: Mark. Oh and a Venus flytrap called Sarlacc What are some of your other interests?: I like crafting. I make cards; wedding invites that sort of thing. Started crochet recently, tried my hand at weaving. I make knockout sock monsters. I like to paint on canvas/board too and have been experimenting with that. I enjoy afternoon teas at ridiculously expensive places. I like studying volcanoes, weather, stars, planets etc. Anything that keeps the grey matter ticking over. I can also bake. I do a killer pavlova. People break down my door for my bread pudding.
