SAVE THE DATE: 10th-12th July at SOAS in London - Football Beyond Borders & TIFO Magazine are putting on a 3 day film festival showing the many different ways in which football collides with politics and social movements, through three days of films, director Q&As and panel discussions. Well even be screening a UK premiere of the fantastic Istanbul United - a film about how rival football fans united against oppression during the Gezi park uprisings in Turkey. Come down, would be great to catch up with people there after what has been a crazily busy few months! Following Goal Dreams, we will be joined by Palestinian footballer Mahmoud Sarsak, who was jailed for three years without charge or trial by the Israeli authorities, for a Q&A with the films director Maya Sanbar. On Day 2 we are looking at football and gender around the world, with films on the challenges faced by womens football in Senegal, Afghanistan and Iran, followed by a panel discussion with sports journalists Milana Knezevic and Natasha Henry about women in football. Day 3 looks at football and resistance, and how organised supporters groups have participated in revolutions and mass protest movements over the last few years. We will be showing the UK premiere of Istanbul United, a film about how rival ultra groups in Istanbul came together to defend the occupation of Taksim Square last year. The director Farid Eslam will be taking part in a Q&A afterwards. Full programme and tickets can be found on the website.
