SAVE THE ROBERTSON HEADFRAME! I cant even describe why I want this so bad. Its an emotional need, related to a visual sense of my home that Im not even sure I completely understand. That landmark has existed on my periphery for my entire life. Every outdoor moment of my childhood and history in YK is punctuated by that colourful structure, quietly towering over my landscape, as a marker of which way home was. Before all of the skyscrapers went up in the downtown, you could see Con Mine from almost everywhere, and situate yourself accordingly. Barely old enough to ride a bicycle, I could escape into the real wilderness with my friends and find my way home with ease because of that bright red beacon. I would love to recycle this building for something useful. Not just as a touchstone, but as some fundamental part of our place. I love it still as a reference point, now that Im old enough to get way further (more lost) by boat or snowmachine, but I want it saved as a mining heritage museum as well, and a tourism draw. I cant explain completely why, but this is my starting point. Fantastic portrait by Angela Gzowski Photography, btw.
