SBH is counting on you!! It is important to attend this protest organized by members of the civil society in Beirut and many NGOs including SBH to raise concern on the Beirut Municipalitys lack of action to preserve our public spaces that is being sold/stolen from us. This concerns, among other things: - Our coast disappearing under private constructions, restricting our access (and even VIEW) to the sea, ripping our right to have a public seashore (case of Dalieh and Ramlet al Bayda, the only public beach in Beirut) - The project of demolition of the Jesuites garden to have a parking space - The illegal closing of Horsh Beirut, our only park - The shattering of Ashrafieh and Mar Mikhaek by the Hekme-Turk Fouad Boutros highway project - The destruction of what is left of our heritage buildings and archaeology - The blatant lack of a public transportation system that creates hellish traffic in and around Beirut The Municipality makes decisions affecting our city and our life without consulting its own residents and even without informing the citizens. That is UNACCEPTABLE. We are paying taxes, we are residents of Beirut, we have the right to PUBLIC SPACES! MUNICIPALITY = PUBLIC SERVICE = RESPONSIBILITY TOWARDS THE PUBLIC Enough is enough!
