SCAM ALERT!!! So I just received a call from an unknown number. I answer those just cause. Anyway... Caller with heavy Indian accent: Good morning sir. I am calling about an error you received with your windows computer. Me: I think you have the wrong number... Them: Is this Mr. Spyder Prime? Me: ... Yeah Them Then I have the right number. I am calling in regards to errors youve been getting on your windows computer from various websites youve been visiting. Malware and viruses are corrupting the hard drive and hardware and we are receiving error codes. Can you turn on your computer now, sir? ::At this point I consider going through the whole thing with him to mess with his head but as Im at work, I dont really have the time. I silently morn the lost trolling opportunity:: Me: No, I am at work. Out of curiosity, what computer do I have? Them: Ah. When would be a good time to call you back? Me: Hey... I asked what kind of computer do I have? Them: I show that you are running a windows computer, sir. ::While he didnt name a specific brand, he did name an operating system that half the people that own computers have... So I guess they had a 1 in 2 shot of hitting a gullible mark:: Me with an obviously chagrined and skeptical tone of voice: Well thats just fascinating... Especially since I dont own a single windows computer. Its all Macintosh computers in my house. Them: ... Sorry sir CLICK. End convo. Lesson: Know your target before you start a scam. That said, I dont know how they got my name or number. Im on do not call registries and my number isnt public. I have no idea exactly what they were after. Couldve been computer access, couldve been credit info or it couldve been just a shitty sales tactic for anti malware software. Watch yourself, peeps. /:P
