SCAM ALERT! The Warrant on File Scam In this scam alert, the scammer, who has recently said his name is Lt. Allen Dixon, calls the victim and says that the victim currently has a warrant on file. He then tells the victim to go to Radio Shack, or any business that sells green dot cards, and obtain a green dot card in a specific amount ($200 in the last incident) and the warrant will go away. He will give a phone number. When the number is called he will introduce himself as Lt. Dixon with the warrants division. He also has his voicemail set up with a greeting that says, This is the Montgomery County Warrants Division. Leave a message. After this scam alert, this individual will probably change the name he has been using. In some cases, the scammer has used actual Deputy names. Please call the number provided below to clarify whether you have a warrant on file or not. The correct number and website for the Montgomery County Sherriffs Office is included below. Key Indicators of a Scam: 1. The call by phone- The Montgomery County Sheriffs Office is not going to call you by phone about a warrant on file. A MCSO Deputy serves the warrant to the address of the individual with the warrant. 2. GREEN DOT CARDS- If anyone calls you and instructs you to get a green dot card to pay off a bill, this should be an IMMEDIATE RED FLAG. Hang up the phone and use the contact information in the #3 Key Indicator below. 3. If you pay, the warrant will go away- No Deputy will tell you this. You will either need to call the MCSO Warrants Division at 931-648-0611 Ext. 13204, go to the MCSO at 120 Commerce Street, or go online to do a warrant search at- mcgtn.org/sheriff/warrant-search. The MCSO has confirmed these warrant procedures. Officer Natalie Hall (Public Information Officer) Clarksville Police Department 135 Commerce Street Clarksville, TN 37040
