SCAM WARNING! Chester Police Department is warning of a SCAM that is coming both by phone and mail. This scam is a nation wide problem and not specific to citizens of Vermont. You may receive a phone call asking you for services and then they will send you a check. If you deposit the check, they will then get your account number and empty your account. In the latest incident, there was no contact via phone. The victim just received a check. The intent was to have the victim call the number on the package to start the interaction. The check that is sent, although looks very real, is counterfeit. The company on the check is legitimate, located out of Arizona. This company is aware that their accounts have been breached and have now closed these accounts.
