SCENTSY AND VICKS I know you’ve seen it too. ”Use Vicks in your Scentsy Warmer for instant cold relief” or even better – it specifies to put it in your infant or child’s room…and then actually shows a picture of the poor kid’s room with Vicks actually in his Scentsy Warmer. While it may seem like a great idea, I can assure you it’s not. Here’s why. First off, it says on the container: When using this product, do not: Heat Microwave Add to hot water or any container where heating water. May cause splattering and result in burns. I am a firm believer in listening to warning labels on products, especially if it involves kids. Vicks has in it the following: Camphor - a waxy, flammable, white or transparent solid with a strong aromatic odor. In a small dose, its effects on the body include tachycardia, vasodilation in skin (flushing), slower breathing, reduced appetite, increased secretions and excretions. In larger doses, camphor is poisonous. It produces symptoms of irritability, disorientation, lethargy, muscle spasms, vomiting, abdominal cramps, convulsions, and seizures. Eucalyptus oil Menthol – flammable Cedarleaf oil Nutmeg oil Special petrolatum - a flammable, semi-solid mixture of hydrocarbons, having a melting-point usually ranging from a little below to a few degrees above 100°F (37°C). It is colorless, or of a pale yellow color (when not highly distilled), translucent, and devoid of taste and smell when pure. It does not oxidize on exposure to the air, and is not readily acted on by chemical reagents. It is insoluble in water. It is soluble in chloroform, benzene, carbon disulfide and oil of turpentine. Thymol Turpentine oil - is an organic solvent, and thus poses many of the same hazards as do other such substances. Being “natural” does not make it less harmful than artificial solvents. Its vapor can burn the skin and eyes, damage the lungs and respiratory system, as well as the central nervous system when inhaled, and cause renal failure when ingested, among other things. It is highly flammable and has a potent odor similar to that of nail polish remover. Try using our Just Breathe Fragrance. Just Breathe is packed full of Eucalyptus to help you breathe better…hence the name…Just Breathe. Transcendence is another great fragrance packed full of Eucalyptus!
