SCIENTIST AND BIBLE: Sir Isaac Newton Born and raised in England, Sir Isaac Newton is famous for inventing the theory of gravity. Most schoolchildren can recount the story of Newton being thumped on the head by an unexpected apple. Some might argue that a single piece of fruit altered the course of human history. Although he is generally known as one of historys greatest mathematicians and inventors, many scholars agree that Newton was also a deist.
