SCOTUSblog says “The Supreme Court is expected to hand down several rulings Tuesday, two of which have the potential to drastically expand the rights of gays and lesbians in the country.” Excuse me, but this pisses me off. There are two - not one but two - cases before the Supreme Court that “… have the potential to drastically expand the rights of gays and lesbians…” Why are we discussing this? Why is this even an issue? This isn’t how American values should be. That’s right. American Values. The values that were meant to serve as a foundation for this country. When did we lose sight of those? Where did we go wrong? Because we must have. Somewhere, at some time, we lost sight of the reason America happened in the first place. Think back… way back. It went something like this: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Remember that? Well, here’s another question. How can there be true Liberty without freedom - the freedom to participate in the same activities as other Americans? How can anyone pursue Happiness if they are not even allowed to pursue a lawful relationship with a mate of their own choosing? News flash. If it has to be argued in court for everyone to have access to it… it’s not an “unalienable right” but a privilege reserved for a select group. That’s not what America was supposed to be about.
