Singh ) , Page---( 569 to 571 ) LAKHERA The Lakhera are also known as Lakhawara , Lakoshkkar and lakhapati , all words are made up of LAKH which means lak and the community is known as a group of workers in lak . The community is also equated with the Patwa at some places . The Patwa work on threads . The Lakhera at Jaisalmer work on threads too . They say that Parvati vished to wear bangles , so this community of Lakhera was created by Lord Shiva and the first generation of the Lakhera were the Hagadiya Lakhera belonging to Hatadiya clan . The Lakhera are distributed in Jaisalmer . They have a good concentration in Udaipur , Bhilwara and Chittor districs . The Lakhera speak in their local dialect . The script used by them is Devnagari . Other language spoken by them is Hindi . The Lakhera are non-vegitarian . Bajra is the main cereal consumed in rural areas . While wheat is generally conjumed in the town areas . They take pulses like moong , mogar and gram . They take mutton and eggs , Rice is taken twice in a week preferably in the evening . Groundnut oil is used as cooking medium . They take vegitables available . Milk is generally taken by all . Alcohalik drinks are taken by men only . The Lakhera community is devided into a number of exogamous clan which are equal in status . Marriage alliances are not found among the Lakhera of Mewar and Marwar regions . They do the negotiated form of marriage . The Lakhera are monogamous . The age at marriage for the girls is from twelve to seventeen years and fifteen to twenty years for the boys . The symbols of marriage are vermilion mark in the hair-parting and toe-ring . Bride price is paid in some areas . Rules of residence after marriage are partilocal . Divorces and remarriages are permitted in the community . Nuclear and extended type of families co-exist . Avoidance is strictly observed between ( husband’s elder brother ) jeth and bahu ( younger brother’s wife ) and jawai ( son-in-law ) and sasu ( mother-in-law ) . Distance is also maintained between bahu ( son’s wife ) and sasuara ( husbands’s father ) . Devar – bhabhi ( husband’s younger bro- (PAGE-570 me )ther – elder brother’s wife ) .
