SEEING JESUS ACROSS THE TABLE At the Christian Church (Disciples - TopicsExpress

SEEING JESUS ACROSS THE TABLE At the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) General Assembly they had several workshops. One of the learning opportunities I attended was a unique opportunity that the Disciples had arranged with Disney Institute. One of the “Imagineers” spoke about how he had gone from driving the Jungle Cruise many years ago and evolved to the Disney Institute. He talked about “Creativity and Innovation”. If you read about Walt Disney you hear about a man who encountered failure, but persevered. You hear about a man who pursued his dreams in the face of discouraging naysayers. You hear about a man who believed in imagination and creativity. As we get older we have a tendency to think negatively about our creative abilities. I watch our granddaughter Amaiya coloring and when she is finished she knows that she has created a masterpiece and she takes joy in her artistic endeavors. That is the kind of spirit Jesus talked about when he said, “unless you become like little children, you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.” The Disney Institute talks about helping their “cast members” (their employees) become their best. The leader of the workshop challenged us as members of the church to think about how we can help people have the best relationship they have ever had with God. How can you do that today? As you go through your day in what inspiring, nonobnoxious way can you touch the lives of others and draw them closer to God. I have always felt the best Christian witness we make is how we live our daily lives: how we treat the people who live in our household, the people who wait on us at the grocery, the people we work with and all the people who cross our path. The workshop leader said it this way, “When my son goes looking for the face of Jesus he doesn’t have to look any further than across the table.” That’s what we are about – embodying Jesus. Because I am a follower of Jesus I will act in Christ-like ways. Because we have been washed in the waters of baptism we will give love and forgiveness rather than bitterness and anger. Because we are Christians we will seek to make peace rather than seek vengeance. How can we help people have the best relationship they have ever had with God? At least one thing we do is we walk the talk. We find joy in our journey with Christ. We live by a higher calling and everyone we meet can see it shining in every facet of our lives. When people listen to the words of our mouths they hear a person who is God’s own per-son speaking. They will know we are Christians by our love. Cindy
