SELFISHNESS The great sin that leads to disease is that selfishness. The soul can be almost powerless to reach its misguided personality vehicle where it is engrossed in selfishness and he resorts to disease – a process that breaks the bonds of selfishness and purifies it’s corruption. It is through putting faith in material things that we become selfish. We must practice non-attachment to eradicate faith in material things. As for human nature in general, does not changed, remained the same now as it was a million of years ago: prejudice base upon selfishness; a general unwillingness to give up an established order of things for new modes of life and thought – and occult study requires all that and much more; and stubborn resistance to Truth if it but upsets their previous notion of things – such are the characteristics of our age, and especially of the middle and lower classes. “It is not the individual and determined purpose of attaining perfection (the culmination of all knowledge and absolute wisdom), is only an exalted and glorious selfishness—but the self-sacrificing pursuit of the best means to lead on the right path our neighbour, to cause as many of our fellow-creatures as we possibly can to benefit by it, which constitutes occultist. But there are persons (pretenders) who, without ever showing any external sign of selfishness, are intensely selfish in their inner spiritual aspirations. They follow the path chosen by them with eyes closed to the interest of themselves, and see nothing outside the narrow pathway filled with their own personality, They are so intensely indulged in the contemplation of their owned supposed “righteousness” that nothing can ever appear right to them outside the focus of their own vision, distorted by their self-complacent self-centered consciousness, and their judgment of the right and wrong. Even the disciple must make the ultimate sacrifice of his most valued possession, which is his personality ego. The humbling of the personality is a prerequisite for entering the path. Each life we give up a personality in the great transition or change of state which we call death, and death of the physical body is good practice for death of the personality that come with blended consciousness. ~Esoteric Teaching~ ▲
