SELMA (2014) You know the men of the Civil Rights - TopicsExpress

SELMA (2014) You know the men of the Civil Rights movement--Martin, Malcolm, and Medgar--but the narratives of the women who gave their lives to a cause that changed the world are often marginalized or erased entirely from the history books. This occurrence has plagued the legacy of women from the beginning of time. Their names and lives should be remembered--not forgotten--and their legacy honored. Women have always been game changers in history. Yes I said it fellas and I also think women are among this countrys and the worlds next generation of heavy weight movers and shakers! Thanks to the brilliance of the Ava DuVernay directed film SELMA the names Civil Rights pioneers Diane Nash, Viola Liuzzo and Annie Lee Cooper are being celebrated, honored and not forgotten. SELMA--Pathé financed the film, and Plan B Entertainment (Brad Pitt) and Harpo Productions (Oprah Winfrey) co-produced the project, Paramount Pictures will distribute Selma in the United States and Canada--is a American historical drama film co-written and directed by and Ava DuVernay and written by Paul Webb. It is based on the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches. SELMA opens up the doors to remember the names of women like Recy Taylor, Juliette Hampton Morgan, Harriette Moore and Fannie Lou Hamer. They along with countless other women around the world should and must be remembered for their unwavering efforts and legacy that opened the door for systemic change not only in America but also globally throughout history! This film whose story seems to have been ripped out of todays headline will resonant strongly across cultures and it will help to mend fences and bring us together. It is what art does so wonderfully well! Remembering our past reminds us that we must continue to face our history thus facing ourselves. This is the only true hope for change! SELMA opens Christmas Day in select cities. SELMA is what I am giving as a stocking stuffer for the holidays! #SELMAfilm youtu.be/r6_AbP7v9nI
