SELMA is a 2014 American historical drama film co-written and directed by Ava DuVernay (the First Black Woman Director to be Nominated for a Golden Globe Award) and written by Paul Webb. It is based on the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches led by James Bevel, Hosea Williams, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and John Lewis. The film stars David Oyelowo as King, Tom Wilkinson as President Lyndon B. Johnson, Common as Bevel, Carmen Ejogo as Coretta Scott King, and a STELLAR CAST. Selma premiered at the American Film Institute Festival on November 11, 2014. It will be theatrically released in the United States on Christmas Day 2014.
