SEPT 12-This Day in Entertainment & Music History: Three music-based TV shows debuted on this date: In 1966, the landmark Monkees series began on NBC. The Pre-Fab Four, as some critics called them, starred in full color shows with a look and feel similar to the Beatles in the movie A Hard Days Night. Mickey, Davy, Peter and Michaels TV series ran for a total of 58 episodes. Since 2003, the series has been available on DVD... Also making its debut on NBC this day in 1966 was the Roger Miller show. And on this day in 1970, Josie & Pussycats began on CBS. The Saturday morning cartoon show about an all-girl rock band ran for 3 seasons...1992-Unplugged, a live album by Eric Clapton, entered the chart. Clapton didnt think the CD was worth releasing, but to his surprise, it went on to sell over 7 million copies and win a Grammy for Album of the Year...2003-Mike Smith, lead singer of The Dave Clark Five, was paralyzed in a fall at his home in Spain. Sadly, Smith died in February of 2008, just days before he was to attend the induction of the Dave Clark Five into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...2003-Singer/songwriter Johnny Cash died of respiratory failure at age 71.
