SEPTEMBER 9, 2014 POCKET DEVOTIONS WHO IS THE CHART PLOTTER? 1 Corinthians 4:1a This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ... Thoughts for Today: I believe the King James Version of our passage today provides a more accurate translation: Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ... Previously, Paul had described himself as an Apostle, a servant, and a master builder (1 Corinthians 1:1, 3:5,10). Today he introduces one more term in order to describe his status: minister (Greek word hyperetes ). The literal meaning of the Greek word hyperetes is under-oarsman. The under-oarsman was a slave on the lowest deck of the ship. He would simply follow the cadence of the drummer: Lift, dip -- now pull. He didnt think, plan or steer. So what does it mean to be a minister? It certainly doesnt imply we need to set a course or determine direction. It means to follow the course laid out for us by our architect, chart plotter, helmsman, author of our faith, and Savior -- Jesus Christ. He is the captain of our ship. He tells us what to do. When we follow Him, we know He will bring us to the right destination. Questions to Ponder: Are you feeling a little off course? Who is charting your course? Are you following a man or the Lord? What course correction do you need? Jesus left us the greatest map of all -- its called the Bible! Have you been reading it?
