SERIES OF EXPIRED LIES AGAINST LABARAN MAKU, CON. LIE NO. 1: Maku was suffering in Lagos as Newspapers vendor before he was brought into politics in 1999. THE TRUTH: Immediately before he joined politics, Maku was the programme Officer/Manager of USAID for Lagos state. He was never ever a vendor but rather, a correspondent and columnist in various newspapers. He was also a teacher. LIE NO. 2: Labaran Maku is inexperienced as far as politics and governance is concerned. He is merely a beneficiary of appointments throughout his political life. THE TRUTH: Maku’s leadership and political experience started from St. Michael’s primary School Akwanga (now RCM Primary School, Aloce) where he was class prefect, at Zawan Teachers College, he headed the literary and debating society, at Unijos, he was elected as SUG president in his 200 level (a very rare occurrence), even in his journalism and activism years, it had all been about governance and leadership. When he worked with USAID from 1997-1999 when he resigned, he was employed as an expert in Democracy and Governance before he was elevated to be Programme Officer/Manager for Lagos. His versatility made him indispensable from when he was appointed Commissioner in nasarawa state for two tenures. Abdullahi Adamu needed him as his deputy in order to be re-elected in 2003. Though he contested and lost gubernatorial primaries in 2007, the spark in him brought him to national politics where he served and rose from Minister of state for information to substantive Minister, then supervisory Minister for Defence. He has proven his ability to lead even under serious pressure. More Lies to be extinguished by Truth. Watch out for continuation…
