SEVERE WEATHER BULLETIN NUMBER NINE TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING: TYPHOON LUIS (KALMAEGI) Issued at 5:00 a.m., Sunday, 14 September 2014 Typhoon Luis has maintained its strength and is now threating Cagayan-Isabela Area. Location of Center: (as of 4:00 a.m.) 266 km North Northeast of Virac, Catanduanes or 347 km East Southeast of Casiguran, Aurora Coordinates:15.8°N, 125.3°E Strength: Maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph. Movement:Forecast to move West Northwest at 20 kph. Forecast Positions/Outlook: Sunday evening: Typhoon “LUIS” is expected to make landfall over Cagayan-Isabela Monday morning: In the Vicinity of Tuguegarao City and will exit the landmass through Ilocos Norte Tuesday morning: It is expected to be at 419 km West of Laoag City or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Public Storm Warning Signal PSWSLuzonVisayasMindanao # 3 (Winds of 101-185 kph is expected in at least 18 hrs) Cagayan Isabela Kalinga Mt. Province Ifugao Quirino and Northern Aurora NoneNone # 2 (Winds of 61-100 kph is expected in at least 24 hrs) Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands Apayao Ilocos Norte Ilocos Sur Abra La Union Benguet Nueva Vizcaya and rest of Aurora None None #1 (winds of 30 - 60 kph is expected in atleast 36 hours) Batanes grp. of Islands Pangasinan Nueva Ecija Tarlac Catanduanes and Polillo Island None None Residents in low lying and mountainous areas under signal #3, #2 and #1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas under signal #3 and #2 are alerted against storm surges of up to 2 meters. Estimated rainfall amount is from 8 – 20 mm per hour (heavy - Intense) within the 500 km diameter of the Typhoon. The combined effect of the Typhoon and the Southwest Monsoon will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms which may trigger flasfloods and landslides over Bicol Region, Quezon and the rest of Central Luzon while light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and Visayas. Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the seaboards of Visayas and the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon and of Mindanao.
