SHANE THOMPSON NAMED HOWLERS U-18 COACH FOR COLOMBIA 7S TOUR IN DECEMBER 2014 =================================================== Shane played and coached on the inaugural Howlers 7s tour in 2009 to the Alba Games held in Cuba. Since then he has played for and coached the various Howlers teams on numerous occasions. Shane is currently the high performance coach for the BC Elite Youth Sevens (BCEY7s) program which is designed to help develop young athletes into the rugby players who will be best qualified to represent Canada with distinction at future Olympic Games and Rugby World Cup tournaments. He also coaches rugby at Brentwood College on Vancouver Island. In 2009 Shane received the IRBs Major Contribution Award .Thompson was one of only five people worldwide to receive this prestigious award at the conclusion of the iRB Sevens circuit this year – clearly an amazing and significant accomplishment for service to the game and to his country. The award was given to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the iRB Sevens and singled out five individuals who had made a major contribution to the iRB Sevens program since its inception tin 1999. Howler Damon Weigl a Canadian social worker who speaks Spanish and has spent a total of over a year Medellin will be there to greet us and transport you to the hotel. Tuesday December 16 - morning run followed by and afternoon city tour. Wednesday December 17 - morning and afternoon training at Mirmidones Moravia Rugby Club (facebook/MirmidonesRC) followed by an shortened (three 12 minute periods) Ultra 7s ( youtu.be/3NAJvYkanE8 --- ultrasevensrugby/ --- facebook/Ultra7sRugby ) games (U-18 men and women) against their junior men and womens sides followed by a a traditional meal with the opposing teams. Thursday December 18 - morning training . In the late afternoon/evening a shortened version (three 12 minute periods) of Ultra 7s (youtu.be/3NAJvYkanE8 ) games ( U-18 men and women) against the Medellin and area men and women U-18 rep sides. Friday December 19 - in the morning leave by bus for 90 minute drive to Guatape small traditional town where we will have a training session upon arrival. In the afternoon tour the town, its beautiful lakes and the Rock of Peñol (half hour climb to an amazing view).
