SHE WAS A SINNER – LUKE 7:36 – 50 And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisees house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil,(v.37 NKJV) In the view of many Jews in those times, Pharisees, Sadducees, tax collectors and many other leaders of the people were believed to be serious sinners but their positions gave cover to their unrighteousness (consider Matthew 5:20). It was a rare priviledge then enjoyed by Simon to have Jesus Christ in His house. Jesus would be happy to relate with a ‘sinner’ with a view to help him out of his sin. He hates the sin but loves the sinner. At the feast in the Pharisee’s house, another woman came in and broke down in tears at the feet of Jesus the special guest. Consider the thought of Simon the Pharisee’s view of the woman -This man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.(v.39). This sometimes play out in our time, when we speak of others as sinners or emphasize their sins. Simon had forgotten he needed to be more pitied than the woman because the current spiritual record of the woman then was that: a woman in the city who was a sinner. And we have not such of Simon the Pharisee. I pray that the LORD opens your heart to see who you really are. May grace be with you to repent, confess and forsake those things that make you a sinner. Amen! Jesus Christ’s is He that has the power to forgive sins. The sins of all who come to Him for forgiveness are cleansed by His Blood. The degree of sin is not as important as the readiness to confess, drop them at the feet of Christ, repent and forsake them all. There is no amount of good deeds from an unregenerated heart that can make up for true repentance at the feet of Christ. I felt Simon was thinking that his good deed of inviting Jesus to dine with him will give him a part in the Kingdom of Heaven that Jesus was preaching; but he was not broken in his heart and he was not loving like the woman with the alabaster flask, so he could not receive Your sins are forgiven. remark. Make genuine confession in your heart to the LORD. Pray that you will be filled with HIS love, grace and joy.
