SHEFFIELD ONLINE HELPS ALAN FIND A JOB THANK YOU NOURISH! Sheffield online recently requested its online followers to help Alfie in finding a job. Alfie was on the streets of sheffield looking for work and we decided to help when someone sent us a picture of him. After the story went viral the next day great news nourish a food outlet picked up the story and decided to help Alfie out. This is what they had to say on their Facebook page: Firstly and probably most importantly for us we want to say were not doing this for publicity or for virtual pats on the back. We have reluctantly put this up after a few private discussions from people we know who urged us to do so in order to hopefully inspire others to follow suit in some way. We also recognise that many other businesses do a lot of good and never post about it either. We have a lot of respect for what Sheffield businesses do to help people out in the city. We also have customer who come in just to buy food/drinks for the homeless too and they refuse a discount, instead saying they want to support us and help someone out. So yesterday morning on the Facebook page of Sheffield Online a photo of Alfie was posted, he was sat down outside Boots in Broomhill with a sign saying he wanted work with his phone number on and a list of jobs he could do. Reading some of the comments, i will admit really got to me, i found the judgemental and non-caring nature of some people extremely disappointing. Heres a guy who just wants a chance, hes down on his luck and some people have no compassion for him and base their comments on just a photo. The people of Sheffield are better than that. At 8am yesterday i called Alfie, he didnt answer so i text him and asked him to come to Nourish later as we had some work for him, he turned up on time and was watered and fed. He then worked his socks off, did a really good job of cleaning our windows inside and out and hes coming back every week to do them for us as well as any other odd jobs we need doing. Not only did he work hard but he was so grateful of being able to do some work for a bit of money. We sent him on his way with some food for the evening too and well give him a call as we do with others when we have food left over at the end of the day. As i said at the beginning this is not about publicity for us, were a small company and yet we do a lot of good things which we dont publicise as we do them simply because we want to help people and restore some balance, but if a small business like us which will only make a small profit in its first year can help people like this out then surely there has to be other businesses in Sheffield that can give the guy a chance to earn a bit of cash? If you know anyone then pass this on to them, i have Alfies number and hes said hes fine with me posting this status and hes happy for me to pass his number on too. This is a great result thanks to you people out there. A BIG THANK YOU TO NOURISH FOR HELPING ALAN. WILL SURELY BE VISITING THEM SOON!
