SHELLY LIONS RE-INDUCT CLUB PRESIDENT CLINTON BARCLAY The 6th annual Shelly Beach Lions Club Induction Dinner and Charter Anniversary was held at The Shelly Beach Ski Boat Club on Saturday night. The event was attended by the Shelly Lions Members, their partners and honoured guests including the current District Governor Martin Rundle of Port Shepstone Lions Club. The evening which was a formal dinner, was a great success and showcased the high standards set by the Club. It was also a time to thank all of the hardworking members of the public that regularly support the Club’s numerous fundraising and community services project (which range from Diabetes Clinics to eyeglasses distribution, feeding programmes and environmental awareness). Outgoing Lion President Clinton Barclay thanked all members of the Club for their hard work through the past year and handed out 22 President’s Appreciation Awards to Lions and some of the Club’s regular sponsors from local businesses. The highlight of the evening was the re-induction of Lion President Clint who was appointed to his second term of office. His induction was conducted by District Governor Martin Rundle. Special mention was made of another important member, who was unable to attend the event due to family commitments, Past President Charles Taylor. Charles was awarded the coveted Louis Halse award for his long standing efforts and service not only as a Past President but also the Club’s perennial Fundraising Director. The Louis Halse award was presented to Lion Charles at the Club’s general meeting last Thursday. Lion President Clinton also presented the prestigious Lion of The Year Award, this year it was awarded to Club Secretary and Public Relations Officer - Lion Mark Brewitt. The year ahead will show an increase in the number and scope of the community service projects the Club will run, building on the great foundation already laid by the Shelly Beach Lions Club over the past 6 years. The evening was characterised by great fellowship shared amongst the Lion Members and special guests and a special thanks was extended to the Shelly Beach Ski Boat Club for their excellent hosting and catering for the function.
