SHEPPARTON DISTRICT TENNIS ASSOCIATION:- Injury robs Lemnos of Ranson for North duel (SNews) ROUND SIX Opponents of Lemnos have long spoken about its women being a major asset to the team. But injury during midweek tennis competition has wiped out one of those assets — at least for this week. Karen Ranson suffered an ankle injury this week that has forced her out of Shepparton District Tennis Association’s round six match tomorrow. But teammate Jenny Darcy believed the team had the depth to cover Ranson’s absence in the singles. ‘‘Karen Ranson is actually out injured for this week, but we’re lucky we’ve got depth in the two singles ladies that will be playing, which is Viv (Jeffery) and Narelle (Maxted),’’ Darcy said. Ranson will not be the only forced absentee for Lemnos, with Mick Clurey away for a wedding. John McKenzie will join the side and Darcy said he would play singles alongside Tom Jeffery. Tallygaroopna v St Mary’s, Shepparton North v Lemnos. McEwen Reserve Lemnos will meet Shepparton North for a second time this season tomorrow, having beaten last season’s grand final opponent by 13 games in round one. It has won only one game since then and lost two and sits in third place on the ladder behind the two teams it lost to, Tallygaroopna and McEwen Reserve, after a bye last weekend. Shepparton North, with a different line-up this season from the one which won the pennant flag last season, is yet to score its first win of the season. Last round it lost by eight games to Tallygaroopna, its closest result so far, and it won five of 11 sets. ‘‘Regardless of who is in the team it’s always a great match against Shepp North,’’ Darcy said.
