SHILOH TEMPLE.....SHILOH TEMPLE began in a small stone church at the edge of a stream in Ramp Creek, Indiana. The original pastor, Brother Raymond Shields, came to Ramp Creek in 1950 and began the new work with only six members. Much work had to be done to get the building ready for services. According to one original member, Mrs. Alice Crouch, the floors were rotting, the heat consisted of a rusty wood stove, and out of tune piano provided the music, and there was only twenty cents in the treasury. With the hard work of the pastor and the members, the needed work was completed, and the church began to grow. In 1959, the U.S. government acquired the church property for flood control around the newly created Lake Monroe. The new church on Fairfax Road was built by the members from native limber from the pastors farm and dedicated in 1960. There were approximately sixty members at that time. Through the years Shiloh Temple has enjoyed steady spiritual and numerical growth. On August 24, 1978, Brother Shields passed away after 38 years of faithful service in the ministry. On September 24th., of the same year, the former youth leader, Bro. Russell Elkins, became the new pastor. The church has continued to grow in the last few years. An addition was built in 1979, and three stained glass windows made by the members were added to the front a year later. Additional land has also been purchased for a future building program. Presently, the church supports home and foreign missions, and a childrens home. A strong family orientation is the basis for the many activities carried out. A new outreach program has just been onotiated which is proving to be effective. Brother Shields built the church on the belief that God is love, and this philosophy predominates today. Visotors often note the warmth and friendliness of the members as well as the enthusiastic praise and worship. Shiloh Temple is proud of its heritage and hopes to have many more productive years serving God.
