SHOCK AS MAZIBUKO QUITS DA Lindiwe Mazibuko has quit her job as the DAs parliamentary leader - a move expected to send shock waves through her party and South African political circles. Mazibuko, who became parliamentary leader three years ago, made the stunning announcement to the Sunday Times before she informed party leader Helen Zille. She later broke the news to Zille at her official residence, Leeuwenhof, in Cape Town at 5pm yesterday. The two met for about an hour. It was a pleasant meeting. Helen asked me to reconsider, and was very supportive once I told her that the decision was final, said Mazibuko after the meeting. Zille said: I am saddened by the decision because Lindiwe is a talented politician, but I agree sometimes in ones career one must take time out to consolidate oneself and ones skills. Mazibukos move comes after her public falling-out with Zille in November last year over the DA parliamentary caucuss handling of employment equity legislation. The disagreement led to speculation in the party that Mazi-buko would be challenged by Zilles new favourite, DA national spokesman Mmusi Maimane, when fresh elections are held for the position of parliamentary leader soon.
