SHOFAR OF GRACE SPIRITUAL EXERCISE 1 Tim 4:14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery KJV When Paul cautions Timothy not to neglect the gift that was in him, it means that in his position as father, Paul did understand that this was a distinct possibility. This gift received by reason of impartation was a gift of grace, a spiritual endowment, a miraculous faculty. Now, the word for neglect herein is ameleo, and it means to be careless of. It is possible therefore that a child of God can have a grace, a gifting or an anointing and be careless of it. What did Paul mean by neglect of the gift? What was he trying to communicate to his son? In 2 Tim 1:6, he explains thus; wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. Neglect of the gift in this case is when we dont stir it up, and tirring up here is to fan into flame. It is a place of spiritual exercise. In 1 Tim 4:7, 8, he asks him to exercise himself rather unto godliness because bodily exercise profits little but godliness is profitable unto all things. However in this instance its more of the gift of speaking in tongues. But for more diverse circumstances, here is what happens; when a child of God receives a healing anointing, that child has received the impartation of a miraculous faculty. It is a charisma; a gift, but it is imperative that it be not neglected. One needs to exercise and to train. They look for the sick and heal them; they look for the lame and cause them to walk; they look for the blind and give them sight. No, we do not wait for the anointing to grow so that we can use it. We exercise it, we practice. If the gift that is within you is a prophetic anointing, you practice in your room as a prophet to the nations; see yourself advise presidents and ambassadors on world policies out of the wisdoms of eternity. Speak it, act it, shout it. That is called spiritual exercise. That is how we grow. Like a man wanting to tone his body will go to the gym several hours a week, the physical transformation is not immediately evident but in due time, we see the changes. So it is with the child of God. You might pray for that lame man and he does not walk. Move on to the next one and pray for them. Even if that one does not walk, there are plenty more. You are exercising the gift that is within you. Paul tells Timothy that godliness is profitable unto all things. This exercise profits. You shall profit child of God. It means that this exercising, fanning or stirring of the gift within you is an investment. It must bring you results. It will bring results! Halleluyah!
