SHOFARDEVOTION 21/7/2014 THE MEASURE OF A MAN: There is a weighing of the spirits of men where one side of the scale is tipped against vanities. Psalms 62:9 says; surely men of low degree are vanity and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity. Job in this same mind says; if i have walked with vanity or if my foot has hasted to deceit, let me be weighed in an even balance that God may know mine integrity[Job 31:5-6]. Understand that the purpose to the weights is so a man can understand that his life does not consist in the abundance of the things that he has or what he does[Luke 12:15]. Even Solomon at the height of his achievement calls them vanity. But now comes one wiser than Solomon and exposes us to weightier issues[Matthew 23:23]. There is a shift in the balances herein; to what Christ has done. The law that he fulfilled; the judgments in love; the mercy he extended and his faith at work in us. We received a fullness and can hardly be found wanting; for our substance is Christ. Nothing can tip that scale.
