SHORT STORY ENTRY FROM JONNALYN JALEA BSBA 1A DONT EXPECT The place is unknown to her. She’d never expect that she would be here. Realizing this place where she is now. She can’t imagine that she is one of those who are worthy to be. It is going to be summer. My mom is already reminding me that time is too short I should not waste it because the time will come that I will be far from them. And I always say this word to her, “Don’t worry mother because all of this that I will be doing is all for you.” Christine is just a mediocre student, she is not really intelligent. Her standard is just at the middle. She always put in her mind that being poor is not the reason that she can’t attain the success that other people reach. It is the reason why she accepts the offer of her school to take the entrance examination where she can avail the full scholarship. She thanked God for his faithfulness in her life that God allowed her to pass the examination and let her pursue her studies and procure her aspirations. The time comes when she had no other choice but to leave her family for her own future. Suddenly, she remembers what her mother told her “Time is too short; you should not waste it because time will come that you will leave us.” But Christine said, “What will I choose, to be far from them reaching my goals in life or being with them seeing that they suffer because of me.” Until she comes to the point that she will do what she had decided. The moment the ship depart from the shore, seeing her mother waving her hand while the tears fall from her eyes really touch Christine’s heart. She told herself that all of this is my sacrifice because I love them. Christine reaches the place. She never thought that this point of her life is the time for her to learn, to mold and to enhance her skills, knowledge, and the potential that she have. The environment that she has is new to her. The daily routines that she’ll be doing are also new. All of the people are strangers in her eyes. She said to herself, “Adjustment is what I need.”Homesick is only normal to Christine. She is not only alone because she already knows some of her companion. She makes friends of them. Until the class started the teacher makes the student lively and interesting she know the situation of the student. They are far from their own family they are under the tutelage of the nun whom they don’t know yet. Christine adjusted her own self. To the rules and regulation of the community. As times goes by her never feel that time is already near that she will be graduating from her high school. She said it is already my fulfillment and my success. I can let my parents proud of me because of my achievements. But before her graduation all the teachers, instructor and nun always remind them that put always the value that you learn from us especially the spirit of this institution because it will help you finish the other race of your life. Christine is very happy because she will be graduating and she will back to her own place. Upon riding to the ships she feels the excitement and joy because for four years she never saw her parents. She reaches the place where she grew. The place never changes. While walking towards their door she glanced a coffin. She felt very sad seeing her father. She doesn’t even know that her mother is at her back topping her shoulder saying, “We don’t let you know this because we don’t want you to feel sad.”
